When I Was A Frat Bro

Black band t-shirt, black band t-shirt, flannel, black video game t-shirt...my hands slipped between each article of clothing and pushed each away till my hand swept across a bright pink dress. I pulled it off the hanger and slipped it over my head. I bent the silver ring open and pulled it out of hole then repeated the same with the hole in my lip. I grabbed a pair of shiny black pumps and slipped them on. Ugh, I feel like a modern, ugly version of Jackie O.

I sat in the passenger seat of the white Cadillac Escalade as Mike agressivly drove down Black Horse Pike. I grabbed the brand new snake skin purse that I would have never bought for myself. It's odd smell mixed with the ovaltine in my stomach enhanced the anxiety I felt. I pushed away the feeling as I rummaged through it's large pockets. Ah, found it! I quickly typed out the tweet, hands shaking.
I walked out the front doors of the AT&T store, my right hand was rummaging in my purse for my phone and the left was clenching the strap of my purse.
I hoisted myself into the Escalade, the four inch heals attempted to slip off my red feet.

I sipped the expensive water, the burnt smell of their 'high quality coffee beans' flooded my nostrils. We walked to the counter, grabbed our splurge of the day, and left the Starbucks. My head turned toward the Verizon I just left. A large man in the black Verizon uniform stared at me as I got into the car.
I sighed and glanced at the 'Must Sell Home, 64K Cash' signs written on cardboard with a sharpie roll by and I hit 'Tweet'.
I was slumped against the leather seat, eyes pointed at the window but not registering anything till the white sign came into view and became clearer and clearer. My eyes squinted. I sat up straight. Does that really say what I think it says?
Waiting for the computer to load I put my head in my hands. I squint my eyes from the florescent lights of Bozorth. Thank God this is the last class of the day, I just want to go home and take a nap. I logged onto Twitter and BOOM. Ugh, the Republican meeting.
How am I going to get through that when I can't even get through classes I enjoy? Well, I can always use it as research... |

Room 102, 101A, here it is, room 100. I looked down at my phone, 8:29, right on time. Lets get this over with. I looked into the window and there sat three girls.
I left the room and stood outside for five minutes. During those long five minutes, not one person walked into the , I walked out of Robinson and to the Student Center.
Well, the frat rush is going on at 9:00, guess I'm rushing. |
I walked into the Student Center Pit, a table stands before me with two 'brothers'. My palms wet I slowly walked up.
I walked toward one of the couches. Deep breaths. I plopped down next to the only other girl I saw. My eyes shifted around, every crevice of the Pit is filled with guys. I could feel eyes on me and witnessed a few of them. I reached for my phone.
Ah, salvation. |
I walked over to group four's table. Two girls were standing there, the leader and one other person who is rushing. Well, at least I'm not the only one.
The second I walked into the room, everything is decorated with 90s cartoons and APO signs. Then I saw them, Heather and Amanda ran over to me and gave me, their arms wrapping around me. Shit, I didn't realize they would be here. They're going to hate me once they realize I'm not ACTUALLY pledging.
A flood of guys appeared. Some were decked in button down shirts and ties, some in sweatpants and Rowan TShirts. I edged to the back of the room away from the crowed of men. I turned to one of the guys that had talked to me before.

Members were grouping the chairs in a circle, the EBoard table being the beginning and end to the loop of members. Following my weekly routine, I pulled up a chair next to Leah. Breaking the routine, Heather moved her chair to the outskirts of the EBoard section. She turned to me. Well, here it is, she's going to ask me.
I sat still, eyes grew, That was too easy, I'm a horrible liar...
Click click click...I attempted to work on my homework as Adventure Time played on the TV. My ringtone started playing...
SHIT!
Crisis averted...well till tomorrow.
I sat on the couch of one of the Whitney lounges. Every other chair was filled with guys and girls on laptops.
I thought this was a fraternity, not a D&D convention.
